Deep Creek Lake Maryland, in Garrett County, is in the beautiful mountains of western Maryland. It is served by US Highway 219 and is accessible via nearby I-68.
 

The Deep Creek Lake area, offers a variety of outdoor recreational activities, including golf, water skiing, boating, swimming, rafting on world class whitewater, camping, excellent trout fishing, horseback riding, snowboarding, snowmobiling, alpine and cross-country skiing at Wisp Ski Resort near Deep Creek Lake, ice climbing and scenic plane rides, plus a wide variety of family entertainments, dining and shopping locations.
 

It is estimated that 76.1% of Garrett County's residents live outside town limits. Garrett is the most rural county in Maryland and is sought after for this reason. There are 567 farm businesses in the county. Unique shops along tree-lined streets in Garrett County's friendly towns offer antiques, hand-crafted items and homemade pies. Woodland trails are rich with songbirds and wildlife.
 

In addition to recreation and tourism, coal mining, forest management, lumber products, metal fabrication, plus a wide range of manufacturing and machine shops are all of major importance to the Garrett County economy. Other economic factors include a farm winery and market based on a European model, a fresh seafood market, spring water distributors and quarries producing limestone, sand products and bituminous concrete.
